Installing the Latest Version of MicroPython

If Thonny fails to install (or you are using another application like Visual Studio Code to work with the Pico), perform the following steps:

Get the latest firmware release from MicroPython.org

  • Download the latest uf2 to your computer (Nightly builds have the latest code, but may not be stable)

  • Hold down the boot button on the board (white button)

  • Plug one end of the USB cable into the board and the other end into your computer

  • The Pico should show up as a new drive (labeled RPI-RP2) available on your computer

  • Copy the downloaded uf2 file onto the RPI-RP2 drive

  • The Pico should reboot and be ready to use.

  • The RPI-RP2 drive will no longer be visiable on your computer.
